How to prepare for your first job interview

Your first interview decides a lot. Most freshers lose marks not on knowledge but on preparation. Here is a simple plan.

The day before

• Read the job post again. Note the three skills it asks for most.
• Learn about the company. What does it make or sell? Where is it?
• Prepare "Tell me about yourself". One minute: education, skills, why this job.
• Keep your documents ready: resume copies, ID, certificates, passport photos.

On the day

• Reach 10 minutes early.
• Dress neatly - clean, ironed and simple is enough.
• Switch your phone to silent.
• Greet everyone politely, including the reception.

In the room

• Listen to the full question before answering.
• If you do not know something, say so honestly and say how you would find out.
• Give small examples from your course, project or past work.
• At the end, ask one question about the job.
